Detroit City Distillery crafts small-batch spirits that celebrate the city's golden age—where turn-of-the-century industrial power, Art Deco sophistication, and Prohibition-era bootlegging converged in Detroit’s famed Eastern Market. Every bottle acts as a tribute to this rich cultural heritage and timeless entrepreneurial spirit.

Partnering with designer Joshua Smith under the vision of co-owner Michael Forsyth, I led the visual direction and illustrated custom, lore-filled artwork for each label, crafting an evocative story that transports patrons to another era with every bottle. Together, we created a distinctive, high-end brand and packaging system that defined DCD’s identity and propelled its rapid growth from an intimate tasting room to prominent retail shelves nationwide.

Packaging as Identity

[ 01—SYSTEM ]

Commissioned by the founders to build a cohesive narrative across their lineup, I created custom, story-steeped label illustrations that bridged each spirit's unique origin into a single, unified system. Rather than treating the packaging as a simple wrapper, the label design became the primary vessel for the brand itself—elevating the bottles into an iconic visual identity built on heritage, storied craftsmanship, and lasting legacy.
